Sunday moved the competition onto the longer 'International' circuit, with its very fast first half then joining the section used as the 'National' circuit on Saturday. This worked well as by the mid-point new drivers were back on familar ground making the end of the lap a little easier.
Fastest overall again was Andy Tippett in the Brabham V8, Andy being the only one of our class to crack the 100 second barrier. Trevor Shortt was once again second overall having a great first weekend of 2019 driving his Scimitar . The Escort battle was once again a 3 way scrap but this time being won by Simon Braithwaite in 3rd overall from Mark Hobbs (Mk2 version) only 3 hundreths of a second adrift!. Once again the top four received an award.
Handicap results for the Overall Henney's
Championship were once again dominated by Yvette Stader driving the Alfa Romeo to another fine first in class. John Newton took Sunday's honours in the Sportscars class with Christopher Wigdor winning the Racing car class.
Mike Henney's Alfa expired with ominous white smoke emanating from the exhaust - maybe the sign of a new pope? or a blown head gasket.....
All in all an excellent meeting well organised by Longton & District Motor Club. Very friendly officials and circuit staff made everyone extremely welcome. I think all our drivers agreed it had been a great weekend of motorsport.
