Prescott was just about in perfect shape for this late summer meeting. Track conditions were very good, the temperature was pleasant rather than roasting like the early part of the summer & the grounds were looking beautiful.
The Classic Championship gathered another enormous field of cars - this time with almost all competitors situated together in the upper paddock.
Saloon cars was dominated by Ian Moss setting a series of stunning times in his Mk1 Escort RS1600 including a new class record on 47.96 - to show how fast this is, it would be a very respectable time in the dry in the Racing car class! Second fastest was Simon Braithwaite in another Escort (49.49) followed by the Scimitar of Steve Louch (49.94) . Matt Clarke set some amazing times over the weekend in the flying Mini Cooper nearly now at the 50 second mark. Handicap win went to Mark Hobbs in his immaculate Mk2 RS2000 from Terry Clifford (Alfa GTV) then Andy Bower in his Mk1 Capri , all well under their handicaps or previous best times. 10 drivers set new PB's on the day.
Sportscars fastest time of the day was set by Iain Daniels in his Reliant Sabre Six on 52.22 seconds. Second fastest & handicap winner was Callum Barney in his MG Midget on 52.60. Third fastest was Mike Henney in the Lotus Europa on 52.70. Second place on handicap went to Peter Hall in the Lancia Fulvia from Peter Joy in his lovely early Lotus Seven with BMC A series power. PB's were set by 3 drivers in this class.
Racing & Sports Racing cars was won on the day by Richard Jones in his amazingly fast Brabham on a time of 42.31 seconds - only a few hundrenths off his own class record. Peter Thurston set second best time in the flying Mallock (45.10) from Andy Tippett now getting to grips with the mighty Brabham V8 (45.80). Handicap win went to Mike Gale in the Lotus FF1600 from Andy Tippett with Mike White third (MG Special). 5 drivers set new personal best times in this class.
