ROUND 1

Round 1 of the 2022 Bugatti Owners Club Classic Speed Championship with new series sponsor FASSI kicked off at a cold but thankfully dry early spring day at the wonderful Loton Park Hillclimb.

A small entry for the whole meeting (and indeed weekend) was bolstered by the Classic class with easily the most participants. This was still a touch smaller than usual with several vehicles or engines not yet finished and a few drivers moving on to other series. It did however set a decent starting point with no sign of any lack of competitive spirit - its never easy to win these things!

New to the series Ben & Tim Cross joined the sportscars class with their pretty MG Midget , Ben immediately showing he is a driver that will be one to watch with some spectacular 3 wheeling action shots captured by the assembled photographers.

Stephen Akers and Les Buck were present with a pair of nicely prepared Lotus Elan coupes , Les's car being new to him and will be alternated with his FF1600 in the Midland Championship.

Brian Ashley has swapped back to his A35 and duly took the Saloon handicap honours. Carole Nicholls took Racing cars top handicap score in her Nike FF1600, whilst Ben Cross won the sportscars class on his debut event.

Fastest time on scratch on the day went to Simon Braithwaite in the RS1600 Escort, just holding off Matt Clarke (Mini) and Martin Jones (Elva Mk7).
