Round 4

Round 4 of the 2023 Bugatti Owners Club /Fassi Classic Speed Championship was held at Loton Park Hillclimb on a thankfully glorious day. This being the second and final (for 2023) visit to this long and challenging venue.

 

The FASSI class were taking part in the Saturday meeting , part of a 2 day Hagley club event. Track conditions were good with several competitors setting times under their previous best.

 

The Saloon class was once again the most numerous with a broad selection of fine machinery present. Fastest saloon car time went to Simon Braithwaite (Escort Mk1) exactly matched by Matt Clarke in the Mk1 Mini. Third place on scratch went to Andrew Cairney in his Imp. Handicap winner was Alister Clark , ever improving as he hones his Triumph Vitesse. Second place on Handicap went to John Louch making a first appearance of 2023 in his Austin A40. Third was Steve Akers in his Mini Cooper. Steve Louch and Ben Thorne were also under their respective previous best times. 

Sportscars had only three starters after a non-show by the XK120 of Ian Beattie. Fastest was the Scimitar coupe of Garry Cox from a flying Ben Cross in the repaired MG Midget. Tim Cross was handicap winner for the FASSI championship points from son Ben , then Garry.

Just two Racing cars & Sports Racing cars were once again present - this time the Elva Mk7 of Martin Jones and a first appearance in the Classic series for Ben Fisher driving his father Phil's Mallock Mk11. Fastest time on scratch on the day & best handicap time in the class went to Ben on a very successful debut!
