Prescott Hillclimb - Round 9

Fine Autumn weather eventually gave way to a soggy mess! - unfortunately coinciding exactly with our final meeting of the 2021 season.

This also was the final meeting under the banner of Henney's Cider , Mike having been a loyal sponsor for several seasons but deciding to not carry on in 2022. Many thanks from us all for supporting the championship through some difficult times.

With the predicted poor weather there were many no-shows so the line-up wasnt quite as strong as expected - although still making around 30 drivers in total across the three classes.

Saloon Cars:

10 cars took the start with a great mix including 4 Escorts , 3 Imps and a couple of Mini's.

The scratch win was taken by Mark Linforth in his Mk1 RS2000 from Simon Braithwaite in his similar car. Mark Hobbs in the Mk2 version came 3rd.

Handicap winner was Peter Hall in his Fiat Abarth, from Andrew Cairney and Mark Maynard - both driving Hillman Imps. It was good to see Graham Hill back out in his Mini with its engine back to health following the Harewood meeting dramas earlier in the season. Missing was the other Fiat Abarth of Leigh and David - presumably also with engine issues as they were struggling at the close of the Curborough event.

Sportscars:

12 cars on the expected entry were reduced by a few non-starters. This was compounded by the Sprite of Alison and Paul Eamer suffering from some technical problems during practice and being withdrawn. Fastest by a considerable margin was the flying Garry Cox in his Reliant Scimitar, next up was the similarly mounted Ian Stainburn followed closely by the MG Midget of Keith Wilson, complete with roof fitted on this grotty day!. Handicap win went to Alistair Clark in his Triumph Stag from Ian Stainburn and Garry Cox. Peter Joy was a welcome returnee , this time mounted in his rally Lotus Elite getting in some practice for Sunday's Rallye Prescott day.

Racing Cars & Sports Racing:

Christopher Wigdor made a rare appearance with his early Mallock at this meeting but withdrew after practice leaving Peter Thurston in a similar but more powerful version to take the honours with a fastest scratch time. Les Buck was second quickest in his Pringett Mistrale FF1600 from local resident Martin Jones in the Elva sportscar. Handicap win (and class honours for the season) went to the reinvigorated Jeremy Rivers-Fletcher in the Triumph Special , second place on handicap went to Les from Peter Thurston.
