Round 1

Round 1 took place at Loton Park's usual late March opening weekend. A cold and damp start caused a few moments on a very slippery surface but as the day progressed the conditions improved and times improved accordingly.

New cars/drivers at this meeting were Ben Thorne in his Mini Clubman and Peter Baker in the elderly Daimler saloon. Both moving across from the New Barn championship to the Fassi Classic series.

Unusually there were no Single Seater or Racing Sportscars at all , hopefully this is one off and some will return soon. The Saloon and Sportscars field was however healthy even with a couple of withdrawals. Tim Brook having a very valid excuse as he had broken his arm - not a problem you need when driving a Corvette up a hillclimb!

Matt Clarke led the field throughout the day and was just pipped by a few hundreths of a second by Garry Cox on the final timed run. Garry back in the 'Yellow Slice' Scimitar coupe once again. Mark Hobbs grabbed a good third place on scratch in his immaculate Mk2 Escort.

Saloon Handicap winner was Mark, just under a second off his previous best, 2nd place went to Peter Baker in the Daimler surviving a rather lurid grassy moment on the first run, 3rd was Ben Thorne delighted to score some points on his first event with us.

Sportscars Handicap winner was Ben Cross from his father Tim both in the family MG Midget, now resplendent in their Driver Training business logos. Third went to Garry Cox from Steve Phennah in his familiar LHD MGB Roadster.
